What is a boudoir photo session?

Boudoir photography focuses on body curves, lights, poses and facial expressions to make photos more romantic, beautiful, sensual and even wild, separately or all at once. Totally different than "nudes" or "porn", the boudoir focuses on empowering women's beauty not by exposing the women, but admiring them in shots of intimate daily activities. It's a way for a woman to discover her own body and how beautiful and sexy she is or can naturally become.

Top reasons why you should try a boudoir photo session:

  1. A self-love experience for you to accept yourself and become more comfortable with your body.
  2. To give your selfconfidence a boost.
  3. To have a great memory of yourself in the future. You'll never be this young again!
  4. To give a beautiful gift to your partner.
  5. To celebrate your femininity.
  6. To see beauty in yourself that you havn’t seen in ages or at all.
  7. To see yourself from a different perspective.
  8. For others to see you from a different perspective.
  9. To step out of your everyday life, break the routine.
  10. For a fun, unique and exciting experience. A photo shoot can be a lot more fun than you might think.
  11. To mark a milestone - birthday, anniversary, etc.
  12. To make yourself a priority.
  13. A bucket list item.
  14. To challenge yourself and get out of your comfort zone.
  15. Bragging rights - it's a great story to tell (and show) your friends.
  16. For your portfolio or social media content
  17. Because you've always wanted to!
  18. Just because! ?

What body type do I need to pose for a boudoir photo session?

Boudoir photos other than fashion photos have no requirements about body size, curves, color, age or anything related. In short, the boudoir shoot can fit any body type, the session can explore endless different poses and angles making anyone welcome. Some poses are more difficult than others and it is the photographer's responsibility to guide you and make you feel comfortable with the right poses knowing the limits of each body. In a boudoir shoot every body is the right body because the boudoir shoot is not about impressing or selling an idea or product to others, it's all about making you feel good about yourself!

How do I choose the best place for a boudoir photo session?

Boudoir means a woman's bedroom or her private room. This means that boudoir photos are usually taken in women's places of intimacy. Most of boudoir photos are taken in the bed, bathroom, kitchen, shower, front of a window, bathtub, pool, living room posing on a chair or sofa, on the floor and on the carpet or even draped in curtains. The most important things for a good boudoir session is natural light, specially in the morning, artificial light can help, but natural light is always the most recommended in these types of photos. Based on this, a place that receives good sunlight, that has a large window, a panoramic view or a nice background are recommended but it all depends on the style of the photo you are looking for. In some cases small bedroom and low light are welcome. A boudoir photo session is usually done in the woman's home or a hotel/resort room. Other places that can used, but aren't "boudoir places" and can give surprising results for photos are cars, gardens, beaches, waterfalls, abandoned houses, offices and factories.

What to wear for a boudoir photo session?

There's just one big rule about what to do and wear in a boudoir shoot and that's "what makes you feel good". The limits of a boudoir session are decided by you. This is an experience about you, your body and your freedom. Use your creativity to try on lingerie, t-shirts, pajamas, underwear, clothes without a bra or panties, costumes, topless, semi-nude or nude poses, props, with a natural face or using makeup. You can even take some pictures with your favorite food or with your adorable pet. Why not? Either way, if you don't have any ideas of what to bring to the photo shoot, the photographer should always help by giving you ideas and recommendations to ensure you have the best experience.
